Viktor Frankl Short Biography
A holocaust survivor who survived four concentration camps: Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, Kaufering, and Türkheim during WWII, Viktor Emil Frankl is the founder of logotherapy (Healing Through Meaning) and the author of the best-selling classic memoir: Man’s Search for Meaning (1946).
Born on 26 March 1905 in Vienna, Austria, Viktor E. Frankl was a renowned Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist who dedicated much of his life to helping individuals search for meaning through the psychological approach known aslogotherapy.
Logotherapy is widely recognized as the “third school” of Viennesepsychotherapy, after the “first school” ofSigmund Freudand the “second school” ofAlfred Adler.
Viktor Frankl spent three long dreadful years (from 1942 to 1945) in the horrendous, unlivable nazi concentration camps.
Despite the gruesome experience of Auschwitz, it taught Frankl the main purpose of life: the quest for meaning.
As Frankl witnessed the brutality and terror unfold around him, he observed that those who had some meanings in their lives were much more likely to survive.
