How do you mate a screw to a slot in SolidWorks? ›

Click Mate (Assembly toolbar) or Insert > Mate. In the PropertyManager, on the Mechanical tab, select Slot . For Mate Selections, select a slot face and the feature to mate to it: The face of another straight or angular slot.

Press Alt and drag one component onto another. Mate a new component while adding it to the assembly. Drag a part from another window onto another part in the assembly. From a part file: Select an entity and drag.

For example, a screw has male threads, while its matching hole (whether in nut or substrate) has female threads. This property is called gender. Assembling a male-threaded fastener to a female-threaded one is called mating.

To make a thread in SOLIDWORKS we can simply to go Insert > Features > Thread. We then choose an edge of our model and go through and populate our thread specifications. Once we're done doing that, we can hit the green checkmark and there are our threads. It really doesn't get any easier than that.

You can select an axis, cylindrical face, or a slot to create slot mates. To create a slot mate: Click Mate (Assembly toolbar) or Insert > Mate. In the PropertyManager, expand Mechanical Mates and select Slot .

A cam-follower mate is a type of tangent or coincident mate. It allows you to mate a cylinder, plane, or point to a series of tangent extruded faces, such as you would find on a cam. The following picture shows three followers that stay in contact with the cam as it rotates.
